After spending 35 years as a sales executive for Fortune 500 technology firms, I spent seven years teaching marketing courses half-time at Harper Community College and have led interview skills workshops for the last five. Much of my sales success was based on my ability to bridge gaps between executive and technical teams. In this effort, interviews were key to understanding the real C-level objectives and the actual technical team capabilities. By building trust at both levels and understanding what my company could do to add value, I was able to create a successful custom project. Successful job interviews include: understanding what you bring to the hiring manager, demonstrating your capabilities with strong examples, understanding and addressing potential negative assumptions being made about you and building rapport with the hiring manager.
